Update: Yesterday the Stansted pilots took control of their destiny and Ensured that Friday’s vote is being held with independent, electoral reform services. This is how you start to make things better! The team effort and the determination of the Stansted pilots should not be under-estimated. We are cheering for you tomorrow!
On Friday, the 20th of October, you will be voting on whether to accept or reject the current deal being offered by Ryanair management. Even though there have been misgivings about the hastily arranged vote we ask as many of you as possible to attend and vote….and vote NO!!!
Look at what your colleagues in Madrid have done! Over 80% of them voted NO!!! This is a phenomenal achievement and a complete rebuke to Ryanair management. As was the case in Madrid, the agreement that you are voting on is based on nothing which is legally binding. There is nothing in this deal that cannot be retracted by Ryanair at a later date should they wish. Would you rather accept a deal right now? A deal which has been hastily thrown together, with no solid guarantees it will still be around next year? A deal which has no legal binding and is subject to change when and how Ryanair wishes?
Or would you rather be part of a Pan-European, legally binding, professionally negotiated deal that has your best interests at heart? A deal you know cannot be changed due to “operational requirements”, “two consecutive quarter losses” or “just because we can”!?!
There has been a lot said about next Friday’s vote and serious misgivings continue to be heard about the way in which this vote will be conducted. We urge you to take control of this vote. We say again, take control of this vote!!!!. Do not allow your vote to be hijacked by those who only have their own interests at heart. You have the right to a fair, open, transparent vote. You have the right to have the vote monitored by an independent impartial observer. You have the right to have the ballots counted in front of you, not behind closed doors. There should be no element of suspicion whatsoever.
Do not accept any form of intimidation around this. Do not accept any form of closed door secrecy around the collection and counting of your votes. Do not accept any form of tyranny and coercion. You must be present, in numbers, to make sure your voice is heard and not hijacked. You, and only you, can make this happen.
You are in a position to finally say to Ryanair management enough is enough. To tell them you will not have terms dictated to you. To tell them you will no longer tolerate memos and the latest “letter to pilots’ which barely hide the undertones of intimidation and menace which have become so familiar to us all.
You hold your future in your hands Stansted – make it a future you are proud of.
